Tribal Livelihood Migration in Goa: Situational analysis, Gap assessment and Future Direction in two regions of Goa

Project Brief:

This study aims to undertake a comprehensive and evidence-based assessment of tribal livelihood migration in Goa, encompassing both intra-state (district-to-district) migration within Goa and interstate migration from other states to Goa. It seeks to analyse the scale, patterns, and key push–pull factors influencing migration through a combination of quantitative household surveys and qualitative field interactions across selected districts. The study focuses on understanding the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities, including their access to livelihoods, social security, and government welfare schemes, while identifying critical gaps in service delivery and institutional support. Based on the findings, the study aims to propose short- and long-term action plans and livelihood interventions to reduce distress-driven migration, enhance inclusion, and strengthen systems that ensure access to rights, entitlements, and sustainable livelihood opportunities for tribal populations in Goa.

Objectives 
  • To collect, compile, organize and analyses various push and pull factors of tribal livelihood Goa and statistics of migrating families in the 2 district regions of Goa.
  • To propose short and long-term action plan to address distress livelihood migration of tribal’s in the Goa.
  • To provide support for tribal migrants in Goa in terms of access to rights and entitlements, financial inclusion and livelihood. 
Expected outcomes
  • Evidence-based identification of gaps in service delivery, social protection, and access to government schemes for tribal migrants.
  • Improved convergence of government schemes to enhance access to rights, entitlements, and financial inclusion for tribal communities.
